Comet Talk: Adventures of a 1901 Toledo Steam Car
It was only supposed to take an afternoon to make the 1902 trip from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon in a 1901 Toledo Steam Car. After many misadventures the car arrived six days later on a journey that has been described as "The Trip From Hell". Fast forward to 2014, add a couple of Brits to the picture, include a visit with Jay Leno, and the very same steam car makes the trip again, without any mishap…(ok that last part is not true). Come listen to Brian Blue tell the tale of the first car trip from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon and the recreation of that journey 112 years later.
Brian was born and raised in Phoenix, and graduated in 1970 from NAU. After a career in San Francisco, Brian and his wife Ann moved back to Flagstaff in 2007. Brian is currently serving as a commissioner of the Coconino County Parks and Recreation Commission and on the Board of the Coconino Community College Foundation. Previously, Brian has served on the Board of the Grand Canyon Historical Society, Coconino CASA for Kids, Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff, and as a docent for the Museum of Northern Arizona.
