Introduction to Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) 
This course provides a basic overview of current procedural terminology, methodology, and reimbursement for physician office billing. Prerequisites: *MAT 086, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite course(s) or consent of instructor, *RDG 099, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite course(s) or consent of instructor, *BIO 160, CIS 120, *AHS 100, *AHS 131, or consent of instructor. Co-requisite: *HIM 111, *HIM 112, or consent of instructor. Four lecture.

Introduction to ICD 9-CM & ICD 10-CM
Students are given an introduction into ICD coding and coding guidelines. This course will focus on defining coding definitions, review of coding guidelines, introduction to billing methodology and application of codes to specific basic coding assignments using ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM. Prerequisites;*MAT 086, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite, or consent of instructor, *RDG 099, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite, or consent of instructor,  *BIO 160,  CIS 120,  *AHS 100, *AHS 131, or consent of instructor. Co-requisites: *HIM 110, *HIM 112, or consent of instructor.  Three lecture.

Information Technology in HIM 
Introduction to commonly used software in healthcare as it applies to Health Information Management and Healthcare Data Content and Structure.   Prerequisites: *MAT 086, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite course(s) or consent of instructor, *RDG 099, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite course(s) or consent of instructor, *BIO 160, CIS 120, *AHS 100, *AHS 131, or consent of instructor. Co-requisite: *HIM 110, *HIM 111, or consent of instructor. Three lecture.

Understanding Medical Therapies for HIM 
This course provides a basic overview of current procedural terminology, methodology, and reimbursement for physician office billing. Prerequisites: *MAT 086, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite course(s) or consent of instructor, *RDG 099, or placement test scores(s) beyond prerequisite course(s) or consent of instructor, *BIO 160, CIS 120, *AHS 100, *AHS 131, or consent of instructor. Introduction to Medical Billing & Reimbursement
Students learn to submit, trace, appeal, and transmit health care claims; includes step-by-step instruction for all major forms of claims using real-life cases and classroom  instruction with current software that provides immediate feedback, self-tests, and additional self-paced exercises.  Prerequisites:  HIM 110, HIM 111, HIM 112, or consent of instructor, Co-requisite:  HIM 121, HIM 123, or consent of instructor.  Four lecture.

Health Record Documentation in HIM
Students learn the Federal and State requirements for documentation in a medical records; the course discusses practices related to all individuals that document in a patient’s record as well as additional, specific requirements applicable to physicians, residents and allied health professionals.  Prerequisites: *HIM 110, *HIM 111, *HIM 112, or consent of instructor. Co-requisites: *HIM 121, *HIM 122, or consent of instructor. Three lecture.   
 

HIM 289(4)
Externship HIM
Designed for students who are looking for practical learning experiences that apply academic and occupational education to real-life, on-the-job situations.  Credit hours will be negotiated based on fulfillment of a contract.  Each credit hour requires the completion of a minimum 45 hours of on-the-job participation.  Prior experience or course work in the field of interest is required.  Prerequisite: *HIM 123 or consent of instructor.  Four lecture.  May be taken for S/U credit with instructor approval.
