If you are considering taking any Health Care Classes we suggest that you apply for your DPS Fingerprint Card right away. Many of our clinical sites are now requiring DPS Fingerprint Cards.

 

Certified Nursing Assistant

*NOTE: All CNA students must have a criminal background check including fingerprint clearance at the completion of the course as part of the licensing application process. Course: NUR 110, Certified Nursing Assistant, 4 credits

This course will cover basic concepts common to all members of the health team in acute and long term care settings. Principles of communication, nutrition, emergency care, medical terminology, environmental safety, comfort and ethical/ legal aspects of health care will be taught. Basic nursing skills based upon fundamental nursing concepts in giving individualized client care will be learned in the classroom and in practice. A focus on the Certified Nursing Assistant’s role in caring for the adult patient/resident will be made. Under the expanded role of the Certified Nursing Assistant other opportunities will be reviewed as well. This class will prepare the student to take written and skills examination for the application for state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. The student must pass this class and the state exam to become certified. Prerequisites: Current American Heart Association  Healthcare Providers certificate, health requirements including evidence of negative TB testing within the last 6 months, verbal statement of having Varicella (Chickenpox) or vaccination, proof of 2 measles, mumps and rubella inoculations or blood titer, and TDAP, placement into RDG 099 or ENG 101 or CCC administered placement test, CCC student ID number.

Course: NUR 111, Nursing Assistant Clinical 40hrs of Clinical

Rotation (4-10 hr or 5-8 hr days), 1 credit (Uniforms are worn  during clinical. There are a limited number of second hand uniforms available at a reduced price at Nursing Office on 4th street.)

 

Provides Students with the necessary clinical time required for application for state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Students will practice basic concepts common to all members of the communication team, nutrition, emergency care, medical terminology, environmental safety and comfort, ethical/ legal aspects of health apply, basic nursing skills based on fundamental nursing concepts in giving individualized client care. The clinical days are interspersed throughout the semester. Co-requisite: NUR 110 with a grade of “B” or better. Prerequisites: Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR, requirements including evidence of a negative TB testing within the last 6 months, Varicella (Chickenpox), proof of 2 measles, mumps, and rubella inoculations or blood titer, and TDAP, RDG 099 or placement, or consent of instructor.

Taken for S/U credit. FEE: $110.00

The cost per credit hour is $80.00 for a total of 5 credits ($400), plus course fees ($110), plus technology fee ($45). You will need to purchase a set of scrubs (dark teal scrub pants, any style, a dark teal scrub top with CCC student patch on the left sleeve; available at Unified Uniform-corner of E. Dale and Leroux St.) to be worn for clinicals, as well as a wrist watch with a second hand, black pens, small note pad and a stethoscope (optional). All students prior to clinical must also complete Student Orientation Module for FMC.

The following requirements must be met prior to registration, and copies must be brought to the Nursing Department.:

1.Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification. This is the ONLY CPR accepted.

2.Evidence of a negative TB skin test within the past 6 months or (neg. chest x-ray within the past 2 years).

3.TDAP vaccination within 10 years. (Please be sure to get the “Pertussis” included)

4.Evidence of two (2) MMR vaccinations or positive blood titer

5.Verbal confirmation of having had Varicella (Chickenpox) or proof of immunization or proof of positive blood titer.

6.RDG 099 or placement test scores beyond pre-requisite course or consent of instructor.

7.You must be admitted to CCC. 

8. You must have proof of having taken, or being registered for AHS 131.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I get my CPR requirements met?

For CPR you need to have: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification. This is the only acceptable CPR certification. NAH requires this form of certification and none other. Even if you have a more advance or are told it is the same thing, this will be the only one that will get you into the CNA/ Nursing program. Below is the list of approved instructors or you may find your own:

What Immunizations/Titers do I need?

  • You must show proof that you are immunized to:

• Measles, Mumps and Rubella. This can be done with your childhood vaccination record, adult vaccination record, or a blood titer.

• TDAP Vaccination.This can be done with your childhood vaccination record and/or adult vaccination record.

• A negative TB/PPD skin test result must be within 6 months of the beginning of class. It takes 2-3 days to “read” a TB test result, so time your test accordingly.

What do I need to bring to the Nursing Department?

Bring the original document of all the above and a set of copies to the Nursing Department when you are ready to enroll. We recommend that you keep your own set of originals in a safe place in case they need to be reviewed. An authorized Nursing Department representative will verify your information, we will keep a set of copies, and give you an authorization to register” form that you take to registration with all fees and tuition. Authorization to register does not guarantee enrollment in class. Classes are limited to 20 students, first come first served.

Attendance at First Class is Mandatory to remain registered in this class.

The above represents an estimate of cost for preparation for Arizona State Board of Nursing CNA Certificates only. It does not include expense for other courses suggested in the Tech Prep articulated program as described in the CCC catalog on page 86. It also does not include transportation, living expenses or other school related expenses.

 

For those students already registered for a CNA course, you will be given information regarding clinical supplies and uniforms your first day of class. You DO NOT need a uniform to begin class.
