NEW COCONINO COMMUNITY COLLEGE CERTIFICATE AND DEGREE PROGRAM WILL SPARK AN INTEREST IN ELECTRICIAN TRAINING
The Northern Arizona Electrical Contractors’ Association (NAECA) and its partner the American Electrical Training Center (AETC) have partnered with Coconino Community College to design credited courses leading to a certificate and Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Electricity. NAECA has even petitioned to form an electrical apprenticeship program for Northern Arizona.
The goal for the certificate and AAS degree is to increase the enrollment of electrical contractors’ employees in NAECA/AETC training programs at CCC and to increase job-training programs. High school students are offered the chance through CAVIAT funding to enter the program while still in high school.
NAECA was formed in 2008 to promote the electrical trade, to address the training needs of electrical contractors in northern Arizona and offer an electrical apprenticeship program. Before NAECA was formed, contractors in northern Arizona did not have the means to formally train their employees or to attract new employees to the industry. The hopes of the Certificate and AAS degree in Electricity are to provide a larger outreach to those who wish to make a career or are thinking about making a career with the electrical industry. A statement from NAECA said that they believe that “in formalizing their existing electrical training by partnering with Coconino Community College, the electrical industry and the future workforce will benefit”.
The electrical certificate and AAS degree are offered as a means of formally educating current and future employees. For more information on the certificate and Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Electricity go to www.coconino.edu.
