CCC Awarded for Associate of Applied Science in Sustainable Green Building Degree

            Coconino Community College was recognized by The Coconino County Sustainable Building Program (CCSBP) for its work in sustainable development at the 2010 Sustainable Building Awards Ceremony. The ceremony included community members and homeowners, sustainable building advocates, building professionals, and representatives from the County and city at the Lumberyard Taproom and Grille. The awards were given to residential and commercial sustainable buildings. CCC received an award for its contribution to sustainable building for the Associate of Applied Science in Sustainable Green Building Degree offered at the CCC.

            The Mission of the Coconino County Sustainable Building Program (CCSBP) is to educate, support, encourage and help develop sustainable building practices and processes for the citizens of Coconino County and the City of Flagstaff.  CCSBP offers a free monthly lecture series, solar/sustainable home/building tours, workshops, seminars and information on CCC’s sustainable building classes as well.

CCSBP provides anyone looking to build Sustainable & Green, a sustainability checklist available on their website (http://www.coconino.az.gov/comdev.aspx?id=148). The content of this checklist is studied in further detail in CCC’s AAS Sustainable Green Building Degree.

The degree provides graduates with fundamental design & application skills related to Green construction, knowledge in construction methodology, exploration and development in critical skills for a variety of alternative construction techniques, Solar Home Design, PhotoVoltaics  and Sustainable systems. This Degree focuses on application of knowledge to sustainable projects and industry related checklist certifications.
